Warwick Car Park Charges: Three Go Up From January, Others Frozen

Prices rise at Castle Lane, The Butts and New Street and West Gate from 2 January 2027 if Full Council agrees on 28 October; St Nicholas Park and four others are frozen, and Myton Fields gets cheaper.

Parking will cost a little more at three of Warwick’s busiest council car parks from January, while prices at the others stay the same. Warwick District Council’s Cabinet agreed the 2027 fees and charges on Thursday 22 October, and Full Council votes on them on Wednesday 28 October. If approved, most of the new prices start on Saturday 2 January 2027.

Where Warwick car park charges go up

The council now sets each car park’s price by how full it gets. Car parks that are 80% full or more go up by inflation plus 2% (4.8%), those 60–80% full go up by inflation (2.8%), and quieter ones are frozen. In Warwick, the rises are at:

Car park1 hour2 hours4 hoursAll day (24 hours)
Castle Lane£1.70 → £1.80£3.05 → £3.20£5.90 → £6.20£13.65 → £14.30
The Butts£1.55 → £1.60£2.80 → £2.95£5.40 → £5.70£12.45 → £13.10
New Street and West Gate (short stay)£1.70 → £1.80£3.05 → £3.20£5.90 → £6.20No all-day ticket

The 30-minute ticket at New Street and West Gate stays at £1, and the £2.75 overnight charge is unchanged everywhere.

Frozen, and two cheaper options

  • Frozen: St Nicholas Park (including two free hours in the evening, 6pm to 8am), Priory Road, West Rock, Vittle Drive and Bread & Meat Close, which keeps its first two hours free between 6am and 10pm.
  • Myton Fields Picnic Area: the all-day ticket (8am to 8pm, April to November) falls from £9 to £6. Hourly prices stay at £1 an hour.
  • Hampton Road: parking would be free for up to four hours on Saturdays, as well as the existing two free hours from Sunday to Friday.

The papers also list a 30-minute ticket at New Street, West Gate (£1) and St Nicholas Park (80p), aimed at quick shopping trips; the council says it will check the effect every month. Season tickets for Warwick’s restricted car parks (St Nicholas Park, West Rock, Vittle Drive and Priory Road) rise from £783 to £822 a year. Parking fines stay at £70 or £50, because the government sets them.

Garden waste bins frozen

Garden waste and bulky waste collection charges are frozen for next year. The council says garden waste permit sales have fallen for two years, and it plans a garden waste sack collection for homes with no room for a wheeled bin.

What happens next

After Full Council, the parking changes need a legal notice. Because they include new charges, the council has to publish them and allow at least 21 days for objections, which it must consider before the new prices begin. Today’s prices for every car park are in our Warwick parking guide.

The proposals were first reported by Warwick Nub News.
