Parking restrictions outside Heathcote Primary School in Warwick can now be enforced. Warwickshire County Council made the order on 9 October and it came into force on Monday 12 October 2026, covering Garrett Drive and Vickers Way on the estate off Harbury Lane. Drivers who stop or wait there at the restricted times can now be given a parking ticket.
The yellow lines and School Keep Clear markings aren’t new to look at. The housing developer painted them as advisory markings while the estate was being built, but they couldn’t be enforced until the county council took the roads on. The new order makes the Heathcote school parking rules official, and extends the existing layout slightly.
What the rules are
- Vickers Way (School Keep Clear): no stopping, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, on two stretches of 43.5 metres each on the school side of the road.
- Garrett Drive (single yellow lines): no waiting, Monday to Friday, 8am to 9.30am and 3pm to 4.30pm. This covers the south-east side from just off Harbury Lane to Vickers Way, and several stretches of the north-west side.
“No stopping” on a School Keep Clear marking means you can’t pull in at all, not even to drop off. The full lengths are in the council’s public notice.
Why the council did it
Garrett Drive is one of the main roads in and out of the estate, and the school faces both streets. The council says parents parking as close to the gates as they can causes congestion and a risk of conflict between cars and children on foot.
The plan went out to consultation from 6 to 30 March 2026. According to the council’s decision report, there was one objection. It backed the scheme but asked for the Garrett Drive yellow lines to run until at least 5pm, because parking peaks again around 4.30pm when after-school clubs finish. Officers kept the advertised times. They said changing them now would mean advertising the order again and a six-month delay, but the effect will be monitored and the hours could change later if surveys show a need. Nobody objected to the School Keep Clear markings.
