New Blue Badge parking bays are now legally in force on West Street and Pickard Street in Warwick, and one in Sharpe Close has moved. Warwickshire County Council’s traffic order took effect on Monday 5 October 2026, so the bays can now be enforced: only cars displaying a Blue Badge can park in them.
The changes were asked for by local people and went out to consultation in April and May. The order covers the whole of Warwick District, including three new bays in Leamington Spa, but most of the changes are in Warwick town.
What’s changed in Warwick
- West Street: a new 13-metre Blue Badge bay outside St Mary Immaculate Church, on the south-east side about 80 metres south-west of the Castle Lane junction.
- Pickard Street: four bays near Lakeland House, on the east side between about 50 and 105 metres from Emscote Road, are now official. They were already marked as disabled bays, but only as a request; the council says making them formal means drivers without a badge can now be ticketed.
- Sharpe Close: one bay near the Woodville Road end has gone and is now a W6 residents’ permit space. A new Blue Badge bay replaces one of the two spaces in the turning head at the end of the close.
In Leamington, new bays were added on Lansdowne Circus, Rosefield Street and Grove Street, and one on Victoria Street was removed.
What objectors said
There was one objection each for Sharpe Close and Pickard Street, and none for West Street. In Sharpe Close, a resident felt the close already had too many disabled bays; the council said it had counted the Blue Badges issued on the street and written to residents, and the number of bays matched the need. On Pickard Street, the objector said the existing bays were being used by people without badges, and asked for parking limits along the whole street to stop commuters and workers parking there. The council said a wider scheme was outside this order, but it will watch how the street works now and could consider more restrictions.
Officers approved every change as advertised in June, and the order was signed on 2 October. The change was first reported by Warwick Nub News.
