Warwick District’s Diwali lights switch-on is on Sunday 1 November 2026 at the top of the Parade in Leamington Spa, and Warwick District Council says everyone in the district is welcome. It’s free, and runs into the early evening with music, dance and food.
District councillors Naveen Tangri and Hema Yellapragada organise the celebration. This year they want it to bring together the different Indian communities living locally, so the programme covers several regions of India rather than one.
What’s on
- Performances: Rajasthani and Marathi folk dance, Bhangra, Bengali dance and Bharatanatyam (classical south Indian dance), dhol drummers, and Bollywood songs and dancing.
- The switch-on: councillors and guests turn on the “Happy Diwali” light.
- Food: Shree Krishna Mandir is running a vegetarian and vegan Indian food stall from about 5pm to 9pm, with tea and samosas for sale too.
Times: check before you go
The council’s two pages give different times. Its news release (20 October) says 5.30pm to 8pm, with the switch-on at about 6.30pm. Its events listing says 5pm to 8pm, with the switch-on at 7pm. The news release is newer, so we’d plan on 6.30pm and get there a little early. Entry is free and there’s no booking.
Getting there from Warwick
The Parade is in the middle of Leamington; the council lists the location as The Parade, CV32 4AT. Buses run between Warwick and Leamington, but check the last bus home on a Sunday evening on our Warwick bus times page. It’s also a short train ride from Warwick station to Leamington Spa.
Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated by Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities, and marks the triumph of light over darkness. The same weekend there’s Halloween on Saturday 31 October and the run-up to Bonfire Night: see Halloween in Warwick and our Bonfire Night guide.
